I heard a rumour that using German characters (i.e. umlaut accents)
caused wierd problems. Can anyone out there confirm or deny this?
Has anyone tried typing German?

I have typed German very often. With a package such as troff,
umlaut symbols are no problem, and with TeX, you can even do
an es-zet.

Hope this helps,
