[net.misc] Proof of astrology?

silver@csu-cs.UUCP (08/13/83)

I heard recently (on the tube, of course) that more twins are born under
Gemini than any other sign. Would be a strange coincidence, yes? Does
anyone know the "true facts?" (If so, you might as well post them.)

I'm as skeptical about this as they come, so I've wondered if there have
been any REAL studies of the subject, like double-blind estimation of
strangers' signs by "experts".

It would be odd if there were *no* influence due to time of birth.
Surely children born in winter would have slightly different
health problems from those born in the summer?
Surely those children just missing early entry to school
would be different from those just making it in?

Incredibly, there is no conclusive evidence that time of birth matters
at all! Yet many believe twins are born under the sign of Gemini,
warmongers under the sign of Mars, and so on.
Surely such beliefs, shared by > 30% of the North American public,
would through social pressure be self-fulfilling?
No again! Perhaps people do not take astrology seriously enough?

Someone on Usenet recently announced that an astronomy society
had an Astrology information packet. I sent for it
and found it an interesting 2 hour read.
Everything from pulp to good articles to numerous references.

More twins being born under Gemeni doesn't make a whole lot of sense.
Shouldn't it be that more twins would be conceived under Gemeni?
(Yeah, I know, astrology works by when a person is born, but the number
of kids is determined at conception, not birth!)

i haven't seen any convincing proof of astrology, but the logic of
'more twins should be conceived, not born, under gemini" escapes me.
net.jokes is still full of jokes even when they are rot(13)'d,
should not astrology not be full of whatever it is supposed to be full
of even if you need to interpret the results rot(9)?
