[net.music.classical] Wagner - an acquired taste

I agree. You know how I acquired it? I was accompanying a woman who was
doing the Immolation scene from Gotterdammerung, when I got a bug to go
through the whole score. Took me 20 hours the first time. Then I took a
class which spent a lot of time on various excerpts from Tristan. So I
read through that, too. nobody ever told me about the third act (except
for the liebestod) or the last scene of the second act! After that I was
hooked. I'll wager that no one who gives the standard BS about Wagner being
"too long" or "too many notes" has ever read through a score of his. (no,
I'm not showing off; they were piano-vocal scores.)
