[net.music.classical] Rennaissance Intro Recommendations?

lute@abnjh.UUCP (05/07/84)

I notice that many of the recommendations for intro to classical music are
from the Baroque and later periods. These recommendations come from those
of you already knowledgeable about about classical music. Are there any of
you out there who would like some recommendations on recordings of
enjoyable Renaissance music? Particularly those recordings done on original
instruments (I'm not very knowledgeable about vocal music). If so, please
send me mail, and I will post a list of 5-10 albums to this newsgroup that I
think you may enjoy.

If you have seen movies like "A Man For All Seasons," "Anne of 1000 Days,"
etc. and said to yourself about some of the background music, "Gee some of
that music is really nice," I'll try to recommend recordings with that
style of music.

If you ever wanted to know what the predecessors of the "modern" instruments
sound like in their own medium, I'll provide a list of recordings that should
be very satisfying. Instruments like: lutes, citterns, theorboes,
rebecs, viols, viola de gambas, crumhorns, regals, sackbuts, serpents, etc.

Why do you hang back? Please put your list on the net!
Pretty please!! I for one am interested in it. Do we need a
survey of interest for every entry? If so, we are doomed!
