[net.music.classical] I need music for a small chamber ensemble

jkl@druny.UUCP (05/15/84)

The orchestra that I play in has ended its season and won't start up
again until the fall. Myself and a few others want to play some easy
chamber music together during the summer. Unfortunately I can't find
any music for our particular combinations of instruments. Does anyone
know of any trios or quartets or arrangements for any combinations of
the following instruments:
	2 oboes, 2 or 3 violins, 1 or 2 violas, 2 flutes

I have the 6 Telemann sonatas arranged for violin/flute/or oboe duets,
but would rather find something larger than a duet so more of our group
could play together. Also, we want something that doesn't require a
piano accompaniment. If anyone has any suggestions I would love to hear
them -- also perhaps the name of a publisher so I could order quickly
(I'm sure no music stores here in Denver/Boulder would have the kind of
music I'm looking for in stock).

Also -- if there are any other oboe players on the net: send me mail!!
I'd like to discuss catalogues and cane suppliers and other double-reedy
things.

RE: I need music for a small chamber ensemble

A few pieces I can think of offhand are:
1. Beethoven Serenade in D, op. 25, Flute, violin, Viola
2. Beethoven Trios, op. 81? (eighty-something), 2 Flutes, Viola

There are also countless duets for the instruments you mention. What
I really suggest you do, however, is make an all out effort to find
a cellist for your group. That will simplify your search for music
immensely. You can then choose from all the string quartets and string trios
(string quintets too if you really have two violas). Also check out the oboe
and flute quartets by Mozart.
