I believe there are a couple of answering machines around that speak the date/time onto the incoming tape before each message. I designed one myself once, but never got it into production. There are a couple of talking clock chips that are ideal for the purpose. Radio Shack has a rather crude answering machine with a built-in digital clock -- when calls come in it records the clock time in a non-verbal data format. When you play back the tape, the clock displays the time that the message was recorded. This does you absolutely no good if you're playing back your messages from a remote location, of course. --Lauren--
