[net.music.classical] Steve Reich query and a recommend....

gtaylor@cornell.UUCP (Greg Taylor) (07/16/84)

Anybody out there know about possible release dates for the next ECM
recordings for Reich-"This Desert Music"? It will be interesting to
hear how the rhythms of William Carlos Williams fit into what he's
done with the music..I'm still trundling about mumbling what of the
Hebrew I can remember from "Tehillim."

Oh yes...you might want to try to get a hold of Paul Dresher's latest
recording "Channels Passing." It's on a small indie label, lots of the
stuff done by his students/cronies at the Cornish Institute. If all you've
heard is his guitar based stuff from "The Way of How," Then these ensemble
pieces may surprise you somewhat. Another of those second generation Minimalist
enterprises, with some roots in Balinese and Javanese work in the same manner
as Reich, though with different emphasis (Dresher, for example, did his
thesis work on the construction of gamelans from native household American
materials).
