[net.music.classical] Classical/Popular - response to D. E. Perry

rlr@pyuxn.UUCP (Rich Rosen) (07/19/84)

In answer to the question, "Why isn't classical music popular?", you provided
an answer "Because most people would rather not bother to think", thus setting
up a dichotomy between thinking classical music lovers and non-thinking pop
music lovers. If this was not your intention, I apologize for misinterpreting,
but that is what came across. It puts forth an assumption that ONLY classical
music (written by registered notarized composers and performed by orchestras,
ensembles, and soloists licensed by the International Congress of REAL
Musicians) offers sounds worthy of "serious" thought by "serious thinking"
people. (See my response to Martin Taylor for additional discussion.)
