References: For another opinion: Horowitz's recording of L"Isle Joyeux (a wonderful piece of music) is also one of the most wonderful recordings of anything. It's a remarkable (and live) performance, but you do have to both appreciate, and enjoy, Horowitz's methods of interpretation, or it might annoy you. I never had any trouble hearing that last maestoso statement as 3/4 time, even before I purchased the music and started playing it. I think that the way Horowitz makes the first beat of each measure hang in the air (for almost two beats) is sheer magic. - Toby Robison (not Robinson!) allegra!eosp1!robison or: decvax!ittvax!eosp1!robison or (emergency): princeton!eosp1!robison

Just to throw a little friendly fat on the fire, I will say that my favorite recording of this piece is one Ashkenazy did about 15-20 years ago. That might (or might not) help explain why I don't like Horowitz's interpretation. Jeff Winslow
