Let's face it, most of the problems with bad CD's are due to the producers and engineers being unfamiliar with the idiosyncracies of digital recording. The digital medium is much less forgiving of things like multi-miking (which makes lousy analog recordings as well) than analog techniques are. I suspect that the same people who produce poor analog recordings will produce poor CD's, simply because (and I have a large record company whose name I won't mention to cover myself legally but who is well known to the USENET in mind) they don't care about the product they put out, the artists whose work they butcher, or the public they want to buy their trash.
