Several respondents to my poll complained about my requirement to name only one favorite composer. I think this complaint is justified. I am ready to conduct another poll (in few weeks) that will permit multiple composer choices. I am looking for suggestions on rules for such a poll. Meanwhile, I have received over 50 responses. I will post results early next week. Please, continue sending a single composer (if possible) responses! -- Yosi Hoshen, Bell Laboratories Naperville, Illinois, (312)-979-7321, Mail: ihnp4!ihuxn!jho

Well, since I shot off my mouth publicly about this, maybe I can make up for it by offering a few suggestions for a multi-composer poll (publicly). You could have people send in one vote per composer, but any number of composers, and add up all the votes. Or, you could have people assign composers a rating from 1 to x and add up all those numbers. (You would have to decide whether negative votes would be allowed.) In this case, respondents should try to have a different number for each composer, though it wouldn't be strictly necessary. Come to think of it, I think I'd have a hard time even with that! Oh, well... Anybody want an opera lyrics quiz (what opera and character)? Jeff Winslow
