I agree with Greg Paley about Copland's chamber works. The Tender Land is certainly one of the few of Copland's works that has some degree of warmth to it. The orchestral suite from the opera is sometimes heard on the radio, and some of the tunes in it are derived from American folk songs that were arranged seperately by Copland. Speaking of which, I think that his version of the "Golden Willow Tree" (Also known as the "Golden Vanity"?) is simply extraordinary. Aaron Copland's musical schizophrenia is indeed one of the true mysteries of life. -- Ronald A. Iltis UCSB Dept. ECE
