[net.misc] Login prompts DO change your real name

richl@tektronix.UUCP (Rick Lindsley) (08/28/83)

When I worked at the Systems lab at the U of Wisconsin, my login
was "rodolf", chosen at a whim after a long session of D&D. Except
for people whom I worked with (and hence knew my real name) I was forever
rodolf.

Arriving here, I attempted to get a login "rickl" but was told it
was already taken, as was simply "rick". Thus my login became "richl"
and I garnered another name (Rich). I now answer to any of the three
(Rick, Rich, Rodolf) equally well and am hoping we never go to the
naming convention of some sites, which seem to require logins be as
secure as passwords (773dbs).
