[that last side of record three was really dull] Just got my first copu of the new hifi mag - Opus, the Magazine of Recorded Classics. The emphasis is squarely on the music, the interpretation and the performance. Only a few comments on the physical properties of the records themselves. But that's not too bad. Chabrier's Le Roi malgre lui was reviewed and came off pretty well, so I got at Tower this weekend on sale - 15.98. I would say that the review was quite accurate - it is a good opera, and their assessment of the singers and of Dutoit was born out in the listening. The big suprise came when I turned over the third record to the second side - one whole side of a single tone - Johnny-One-Note, eat your heart out. I checked out the review - sure enough, they mention 2 1/2 sides in the description. Boy, after all the gripes about CDs not making full use of the time that is available, one would have thought that this approach was too blatant. This is the only one-sided record that I have in my collection - I suppose it makes a good 20 minutes of test tone if I need it. Even with that, the record is worth the money - though it is 1/6 less the bargain that I thought I had. Dewayne Perry ps I suppose you could also use it as a straight line in the cat duet of Rossini.
