Recently we saw on the NET: > > Tower Records in NYC is having a CD sale until > March 13. Prices are > $11.99 and $12.99. I'm sure many habitues of NET.MUSIC.CLASSICAL are members of The Musical Heritage Society, but for anyone that isn't, they are now offering digital discs in their ~monthly releases. The most recent offers one at a lower price. I just received my Musical Heritage Review (Release #343) and in their Compact Discs section, they offered a recording of Saint-Saens Symphony #3 in C Minor (The 'Organ') by the London Philharmonic (Noel Rawsthorne, Organ; Enrique Batiz, Conductor) for a member's price of $12.99. For nonmembers, the membership is free, but you receive announcements about every month. If you do not want the month's selections, you must respond accordingly. They offer either a cassette (default) or a phono-record (default) membership, but you can order either or select from selected Compact Discs. The Musical Heritage Society 1710 Highway 35 Ocean, New Jersey 07712 I have just received a CD of Mozart's Double (piano) Concertos with the Concertgebouw Orchestra (Nikolas Harnoncourt, cond.) with pianists Chick Corea and Friedrich Gulda. It was $16.99 + shipping. It is a TELDEC recording from West Germany. I suppose, now, I'll hafta run out and get a CD player o' some sort. I have no financial interest in Musical Heritage Society. Has anyone heard a particularly good recording of your favorite symphony, concert, solo, etc in CD format. I just bought a CD and would like to know some good classical CDs to buy. Is there a comprehensive review of CDs available ? I heard that old recording that were put directly into CD format were too harsh due to CDs flat freq. response out to 20K. Any comments ?
