I would like to solicit opinions in the "Groves" (sp?) series of books on composers - their lives and works. The anouncers on a few on the local radio stations in the bay area ( e.g. KKHI, KQED ) make reference to them quite a bit. I was toying with the idea of buying a few to expand my music reference collection. The books in this series that I am currently considering buying are "Mozart", "Schubert" and "Handel" titles. If anyone has any good reasons why I should or should not consider this series I'd appreciate hearing about it. -- Greg Stevens, Computer Systems Laboratory, Stanford University {ucbvax, decvax}!decwrl!shasta!stevens, stevens@su-shasta.ARPA

[] I understand that the books are simply abstracted from the main Groves set. I suggest your money might be better spent by buying the whole set: Groves Dictionary of Music and Musicians. Now you don't really have to be a millionaire to do this. Just frequent used book stores, AAUW book sale and the like. I picked up a set (missing one volume) for next to nothing that way. -- "It's the thought, if any, that counts!" Dick Grantges hound!rfg
