CBS news just reported that Watt has resigned. A true boon to nature- and people- lovers! Three cheers! -- Marty Shannon UUCP: {alice, rabbit, research}!mjs Phone: 201-582-3199

My only regret is that he was forced to resign because of some stupid comment he made instead of his environmental policies. -- Darrell McIntosh, AT&T Information Systems Laboratories, Denver (303) 538-3212, {ihnp4|hogpc}!drux3!darrell

I agree with Darrell that it's unfortunate Watt wasn't forced to resign for his asinine environmental policies (my wording, not Darrell's). I also regret that his replacement is likely to have similar policies. We must remember that Watt would not have stayed in office so long, or been able to carry out his policies with such wild abandon if his employer didn't agree completely. Perhaps in 84 there will be some better choice available (although every possible candidate I've heard about is a confirmed turkey in some way or another). Tom Laidig ...!ihnp4!druxu!tll

Watt's resignation is by no means a boon to environmentalists, nature lovers, or other good people. Watt was just following Reagan's orders, and his outspoken wit was probably just a smoke- screen to hide the stuff he was really doing (Reagan's stuff). If there is to be real change in the Interior Department, Reagan must change HIS policies toward the environment. Who the Secretary is really makes little difference. Ken Lee 5941ux!kfl

Yes, Watt has resigned. Unfortunately, the man who put him in office will select his replacement. Don't expect anything better. Robert A Zimmermann {...decvax!idis!mi-cec!} raz
