[net.misc] pronounciation

A friend from Manhattan pronounces Houston Street 'how-ston'. A friend
from Houston (hue-ston) laughs everytime she hears is.

joe@cvl.UUCP (Joseph I. Pallas) (08/25/83)

But the street in Manhattan IS pronounced 'how-ston', as it was named
after someone who pronounced his name that way.

Yes, since I am three blocks away from it, I know it is `How-ston', yet
it divides the area into two areas called Soho and Noho, which are pronounced
`So-hoe' and `No-hoe'. Why, I can't imagine!
