An article in the April 19 Chicago Tribune describes the upcoming exhibition of hominid fossils at the American Museum of Natural History in New York. The majority of famous fossil finds will be on display. This is especially noteworthy since most of these have been locked in vaults, unavailable even for scientific study. The reason I'm posting this, though, is that the article credits the creationist movement with inspiring the exhibit: Science finally has responded to attacks from creationists who claim the case for evolution is weak. As museum director Thomas D. Nicholson explained: "It's not just the theory of evolution, but the scientific process itself that is being challenged. We want people to come and see the evidence with their own eyes. "We are making an active statement, not counterpunching. We are leading the attack. We're not looking for controversy, but we insist on the right to put together the story of life on earth. And we insist on the primacy of tangible, visible evidence to help us understand the story." The exhibit just opened and will run through Sept 9. Lew Mammel, Jr. ihnp4!ihuxr!lew
