In the Tanach (Old Testament) there is a prohibition against eating certain
kinds of land animals (exact reference available upon request). The two
characteristics required for a land animal to be kosher are:
fully split hooves
chews its cud
Then the passage goes on to list the 4 animals which have one of these
characteristics but not both (and thus are not kosher). They are:
pig
camel
hare
a certain kind of badger
Prediction: there are no other such animals (that have only 1 characteristic).
In the past millenia, we have discovered many new animals, but we haven't found
any like these 4.
