[net.origins] Creationists vs Baby Fae

keithd@cadovax.UUCP (Keith Doyle) (10/31/84)

I'm curious, what do the creationists think about Baby Fae, the human
baby that recently had a heart transplant from an ape? I would think
that most creationists would object to this sort of thing, though some
might feel the topic totally unrelated to their creationist beliefs.
Anyone venture a comment?

I read in the LA Times that a representative of the 7th-day
Adventists, avowedly a pro-creationism sect, said that he had
no problem with the Baby Fae transplant with respect to the
creationism issue.

Presumably the interchangability of parts can be taken just as
easily as evidence of the same creator of both species.

I think that creationists might be left to make that last statement
for themselves, if they want to. Unless they do, you're putting
words in their mouths. I can say "presumably evolutionists believe
X" but unless *they* say they believe X, my statement is not very
useful.

I choose my words very carefully. I didn't say "presumably, these
people believe X". I said, "presumably, someone can interpret
Y as Z." Who's putting words in whose mouth?

Oops! It looks like I am. My apologies.
