[net.origins] A New Theory of Origins

johno@tekchips.UUCP (John Ollis) (12/10/84)

I feel that it is time to announce a new theory (as far as I know)
of the origins of life and our world. Since this theory combines
portions of both creationism and evolutionism so well, I fell that it
should definitely be required study for all school children, and
probably all adults.

The basic premis of the theory is that there is a Creator who is a
Member of a Race that developed through evolution. For reasons of His
own (well really His or Her own...or maybe Her or His own...Its own?),
He decided that He needed to create a world. Of course, working with
real matter is so messy, that He sat down at his favorite Super
Computer, fed in a very sophisticated Super Simulator, and hit the
return key mumbling something about letting there be light. And our
universe came into being.

This theory addresses both older theories. First of all, to the
creationists, it acknowledges the existence of a Creator. It also
accounts for the period of absence of natural law since, before the
starting of a simulation, the simulated universe really has no laws at
all, and is created out of a real Void, a void very familiar to those
of us who have faced the writing a simulator.

To the evolutionists, the theory admits that evolution did occur
on the Creators World. After all, in creating the Simulation, He would
not want to make it too obvious to the createes that it was, after all,
just a simulation. So, He would have to allow some plausible
explanation for the origin of everything, and what better and easier to
handle than what had happened on His own World. Therefore, He would
spread the necessary evidence around to support this one possible
explanation.

Therefore, since this theory combines evolution and creation
together through a simulation, I have named it "Evulation."

There are some very interesting aspects to Evulation. We have no
way of knowing, relative to our time, when the Simulation started. It
may have started thousands of years or ten minutes ago. At whatever
point it started, appropriate Initial Conditions would have been set
up, including the memories of all people involved. Also, we have no
way of knowing the relation between our time and the Creator's. In
fact, if He has us running as a background job, there may be no
definite relation at all, with the Super Computer running us whenever
there isn't anything useful to do.

We also have no way to tell the extent of the Simulation or to
what detail particular things are simulated. For instance, I know that
I have been simulated in detail, but everyone else in the world might
be just facades. The part of the world that is out of my sight might
even be on a "back burner" not really being simulated in much detail at
all unless I happen to go there. On the other extreme, the entire
universe might be simulated in great detail. It all depends on how
super the Super Computer really is.

Evulation also explains one really odd-ball fact about our
world--quantum physics. It is obvious now that all the quantum effects
are merely necessary quantization for the Simulation. This leads to
the prediction that time and space are both inherently quantized.

This all leads to the Purpose for the Creation of the Simulation
in the first place. Consider for a moment what common bond holds all
the human race together, what driving force permeates all our lives.
Everyone on this whole world is involved with buying and selling. Even
the most backward aborigines have either been exposed to such things or
are unexploited customers. Therefore, I conclude that the purpose of
the Simulation is as a Marketing Study.

The preceding is not the honest opinion of anyone that I know of,
including myself.
