[net.origins] Determining the age of the universe

Sometime ago Larry Bickford submitted a list of allegedly scientific methods
for determining the age of the universe which gave wildly conflicting
answers. The point being that there is no reasonable scientific means of
making such estimates. After being flamed at by various people (including
myself) for perceived defects in his reasoning he resubmitted the list
with somewhat more explanation and a list of references. At this point
it became clear that much of the discussion had missed the point, simply
because no one had been able to figure out what he was saying. I then
went out and looked up his references and submitted a long article explaining
why he was wrong on every point. (Except for the argument based on the
Earth's magnetic field. Bill Jefferys took care of that.) I have
since discovered, to my chagrin, that due to some system glitch it
is likely no one, including Larry, saw my article. I would be willing
to submit a synopsis if someone would supply me with Larry Bickford's
references again.
