[net.origins] Genisis? literally?

jayt@ssc-vax.UUCP (Jay T McCanta) (03/28/85)

Please forgive my ignorance, but as I read Genisis, I see two stories
of creation. The seven day theory and the Adam and Eve one (unless God
created everthing twice :->).

It was my understanding that the seven day theory is the story of creation
that the rabbis told the Hebrews as a justificaiton of the Sabbath.
Adam and Eve were in the story that the people told amoung themselves to
answer such questions as "Why do we suffer so?".

It is also my understanding that the purpose of Gensis is a record of how
the Hebrews came to know thier God, not a history of the world from Day 1.

My boss is very religous about the Sabbath. He say when I do what God
did in six days, I can have one day off too. :-)
