the following is from a letter to the editor in this morning's
globe and mail (toronto):
The other day i received one of the strangest phone calls ever.
It seemed, according to this all-too-pleasant voice, that my
beautiful 5-year-old son had been "eradicated" - he was one of
the "3 percent lost in the computer".
... she felt compelled to explain to me that, although she had
found the necessary information in a filing cabinet, she was
going to have to "create" my son.
... nor was I even faintly sympathetic to this person's
predicament.
it sounds to me as though someone has found a way to commit computer
fraud without having to use a computer. has anyone else run across
this trick?
