[net.origins] Biblical prohibition of speciation

throopw@rtp47.UUCP (Wayne Throop) (07/18/85)

Some time ago, I asked for help with biblical research, and got no
response. I'll try one more time. I asked where in the Bible there was
a direct statement that species are static and do not evolve (beyond the
obvious "after their own kind" in Genesis). My reason for asking is
pure curiosity. I am trying to find a justification in scripture for
the fervor with which evolution is attacked, and have, in all sincerity,
simply failed to find it. It seems to me that, unless you are a fully
committed biblical inerrancy fan, the Bible does not in any way
conflict with evolution, at least as I read it.

I was moved to ask about this point by this posting fragment:

    In <1167@uwmacc.UUCP>, Paul DuBois says:
    > Contradictory to WHAT? Where does the Bible state that from
    > henceforth and forevermore languages would remain static?
    > Paul DuBois {allegra,ihnp4,seismo}!uwvax!uwmacc!dubois

As this is a point of curiosity not directly connected with the subject
of the newsgroup, please respond by mail. I will mail or post any
result if there is any interest.
