I am not so certain that the popularity of Cabbage Patch dolls is due only to Saturday Morning Television. We have two kids, ages 3 and 1.5, and no television. Thus my kids are not influenced by saturday morning television. Nevertheless, last week we gave our oldest the catalogue from a local store and asked her what toy she thought she liked the best. Guess what she picked? And it wasn't due to an overly flamboyant display, either, as I thought the ad for this particular doll was rather less interesting than many others in the catalogue. I don't have any explanation for this. (A quick check of local stores showed that everybody had decided to stock up on CPD before the hoarders got them. There were none left in town. Fortunately, my mother was GIVEN a CPD several months ago, and when I related the story she was more than happy to send it down to her favorite grand-daughter.)
