I just new they wouldn't get it! "I'm a little puzzeled." More than a little I'd say. We are refering of course to my joke about a supposed statement by Abe Lincoln: "Personally, I'm opposed to slavery, but I don't want to impose my views on others." Be glad to explain. Listen up! One of the essences of humor is it's play upon incongruity. This joke displays incongruity on several levels. o Lincoln would not have said such a thing given our knowledge of his character and actions. o Given the seriousness of the subject (slavery) and the statement of personal opposition it is incongruous to fail to speak out. We're not talking about if you like your pants tight or loose. What does it have to do with abortion? Plenty. Those who oppose abortion on this net have from time to time been accused of trying to oppose their views on others. Such statements beg the question and are pure stuff and nonsense. If they were silent because they did not want to impose their views on others they would likewise be guilty of being incongruous. Like (taking something we ALL perhaps agree IS ungood) saying, "I oppose murder but wouldn't want to impose my views on others." -------------------------------------------- Anything else you don't understand?? No spelling questions please! Regards, Ken Arndt
