This reminds me that I am often completely amazed at the inability of a large segment of the public to detect satire, parody, irony or other forms of "just kidding" in written language. In this case, I just wonder, but sometimes when a satirical writer is using the device on a "serious" subject, say in the daily newspaper, the resulting cries of outrage from people who took that writer at face value sadden me. I don't know what should be done about it except maybe to prescribe large doses of Jonathon Swift as therapy. Shaking my head over the neccesity of using :-), Bob McQueer, ihnp4!druxt!mcq

In my previous article about tipping vs dunking, I was just kidding. I might not have it all together sometimes, but I am not that out of it. I realize that the sign meant that I wasn't supposed to give the waitress any money (beyond the amount on the check). Please don't send me any more explanations about what the sign meant. I assumed that my previous article was so outrageous that no one would believe I was serious. I will have to go back and study the face dictionary from the net a while back and punctuate my joke articles accordingly.
