[net.abortion] ammendation

densinge@stolaf.UUCP (Charles W. Densinger) (11/27/84)

This is an ammendment to my reply to Paul Torek: Re: Densinger still has
it wrong. I have been uncomfortable with the following lines from Paul's
article...

>Tense, painful moral decisions are disvaluable, not valuable. It would be
>nice (though the possibility is purely hypothetical) if tough decisions were
>unnecessary. Tense decisions are also no paradigm of freedom. The less
>certain a decision is (if correct), the less free. (The more certain the less
>free if the decision is incorrect.)

...and didn't know why until last night. One of the realities of freedom is
that it is accompanied by responsibility. One of the main reasons moral
decisions are difficult to make is that we have the burden of responsibility
resting upon the decision. The more I think about it, the more I Think Paul
just wants to have it easy. Besides, his logic makes no sense.
