It's interesting to note that the (socalled) first wave of feminism 
grew out of the abolitionist movement in the U.S.  (As you know doubt 
know, a large  segment (majority?) of the abolitionist movement was
women.)  Women discovered their own lack of rights while attempting
to fight for the rights of slaves.  It would be interesting to find 
out how abolitionists felt about a woman's right to control her 
reproductive life.
