Hope everyone had a happy holiday. While on vacation, I was able to catch up on some reading that I had wanted to do, and decided to read the "Zarathustra/Little Fuzzy" series by H. Beam Piper ("Little Fuzzy", "Fuzzy Sapiens", "Fuzzies and Other People"). A delightful set of books, and worth reading. So much for the posting to net.books. The first book, "Little Fuzzy", is of particular interest to those debating in net.abortion since, as part of the development of the story line, the question of consciousness, "sapience", and the definition of murder, as well as the problems of determining such, are addressed by the characters. Since it was written in the 60s, and does not address the "humanity of the fetus" question directly, it might help shed some light on our debate from the point of view of someone who does not have an axe to grind for either side. Those wishing to follow up on this article, please modify the Newsgroups line before submitting. There seems to be a great adversion to having the abortion debate spill over into other groups: more so than if, say, net.motss spilled over into net.singles. -- Gerald Owens Georgia Insitute of Technology, Atlanta Georgia, 30332 ...!{akgua,allegra,amd,hplabs,ihnp4,seismo,ut-ngp}!gatech!gitpyr!owens
