[net.abortion] The ACLU

ka@hou3c.UUCP (Kenneth Almquist) (01/14/85)

Where you aware that they [the ACLU] are presently fighting a
hospital's decision to explain the abortion procedure to patients?
You can't make a true choice unless you know the facts.

I don't know what case you are referring to, but I suspect that you
have not heard the entire story. Very likely the ACLU is involved for
reasons unrelated to the abortion issue. A couple of years ago I heard
about a case involving regulations which required doctors to inform
patients of certain "facts." (They came pretty close to requiring that
patients be informed that an abortion involved the taking of a human
life; I don't remember the exact wording.) At stake in that case was
whether doctors should be required to make statements to their patients
which the doctors believe to be false or misleading.

Perhaps you could dig up some more information about the hospital's
decision, including who actually gets to do the explaining.
