Now I remember why I stopped reading and responding to net.abortion. Nobody bothers to listen to anyone else, people bait other people, and nobody addresses the real problems. My original posting to this group (could it be so long ago) was along the lines of "let's all get together and do something about this". Well, I guess I'm taking my ball and going home. It ain't gonna happen. EVER! And that's the real sad thing. These silly "is it a person", "is it not a person", "it doesn't matter because you're killing something","no I'm not" arguments will go on forever. I would just like to address a few matters before I go: 1. Pro choicers are not abortionists. We may not have abortions, we may not like abortions, we just want to leave choice up to the individual woman. 2. All of us (pro life and pro choice) should concentrate on eliminating problem pregnancies instead of screaming after its happened. No pregnancy, no possible abortion. 3. Pro lifers should cut down on picketing and making films (which MANY consider bogus and misleading), and advertise their services which are alternatives to abortion. I know of a few people who elected abortion who may not have if they knew that financial services and group homes were available. I would dearly love to see a day when all pregnancies were wanted, and abortion wasn't even considered. I agree, the idea of an abortion is not too nice. And yes, a life (or a potential life anyway) is being terminated, sometimes for the sake of convenience. So let's lobby for birth control information in schools, and make contraception TRULY available to everyone. (oops, here I go being naive again. I should expect letter bombs about how horrible I am for wanting birth control in schools, how contraception is really available to everyone, and everyone knows about what to use and how, and how I'm a pro choice murdering type person....I'll be ready) Mikki Barry * In the beginning was the Word, and it was written by a baboon*
