It is already more lucrative for > a doctor to perform abortions than to take care of mother > and child through a complete pregnancy. Even if this is true, this doesn't change the pro-choice position. Pro-choice means that the *mother* decides whether or not to have an abortion. Therefore even if there is a conflict of interest, the final decision is in the mother's hands rather than the physicians. Of course if the abortion is medically indicated there is a potential conflict of interest, but most abortions probably do not fall into that category. However, whenever any surgery is indicated, there is also a potential conflict of interest. There is a lot of unnecessary surgery performed, the most common of which is probably the C-section that seems to be so popular nowadays. Let's face it, a lot of doctors will try to bleed their custommers for as much as possible, so it is up to the astute consummer to decide whether a particular intervention is necessary or not. -- Sophie Quigley {allegra|decvax|ihnp4|linus|watmath}!utzoo!mnetor!sophie
