-- I remember the gentle art of blowing up buildings from the 60's and 70's. It had its perpetrators, and it had its apologists-- like me. I understand the motives of bombers--ROTC building, abortion clinic, or otherwise. Of course, back then, all you had to do was whisper the word "bomb" and the town would be swarming with feds. Now it's much easier, as the government's finest just don't seem to care. Ah, well--you really can't get good help these days. But what I really wanted to talk about is exuberance. Bombers are exuberant. All the anti-abortion forces are exuberant. (No, I'm *NOT* insinuating that they all approve of the bombings.) I made my regular pilgrimage to the Wisconsin Civil Liberties Union annual awards dinner last winter in Milwaukee. The WCLU has been active in defending abortion rights. Anyway, there were at least 100 "pro-lifers" outside picketing the affair, for hours, marching into the teeth of a brisk wind off the lake *AT 20 BELOW ZERO.* That's exuberance. Exuberant people don't count the wind chill. They don't even feel it. If pro-choice forces, the majority of this country, are not *EQUALLY* exuberant about a woman's right to control her own body, a relative handful of single-minded zealots will seize their opportunity and stuff it down our throats. It's terrifying the havoc zealots can wreak when they focus their energy. We must beat back their repressive assault on reproductive rights. We're not talking about the hypothetical rights of hypothetical proto-persons--we're talking about *LIBERTY*.
