> Ludicrous,ludicrous,ludicrous........... > > If the Constitution of the United States made sexual promiscuity >our country's main purpose, would people die to protect that liberty? >Obviously, killing to protect a way of life depends on the (moral) >validity of that lifestyle. > Ari Gross Ari, you make me wonder. You think Marie's questions about killing in war is ludicrous, then you talk about supposing something wildly ludi- crous about the constitution in order to illustrate your point!! 1. Killing in war at least has _happened_ which gives it some validity as a topic for intelligent discussion. 2. Even supposing the Constitution made (fill-in-the-blank) the country's main purpose, one would presume it did so because MOST OF THE PEOPLE believed in that purpose. It certainly couldn't happen willy nilly, just to make your argument sound good. Therefore whether people killeed to protect that (blank)-way-of-life would become difficult to separate from the _law_ and the _personal morality_, since the (blank) was the majority opinion, anyhow. > If the earth was ever taken over by a horde of supersophisticated >extra-terrestrials, would you like your life to be aborted for being a >a sub-extra-terrestrial ??? Would I have a choice? Would they even recognise me as having enough brain power to make a choice? Do we normally ask animals at the slaughter house, and respect their decisions? Somehow, I don't think it would come up. Why are we going off into the ozone, here? Adrienne Regard
