[net.micro.hp] rerun of DSN/link question

harrer@sjuvax.UUCP (04/05/84)

I had previously posted this article about 5 days ago and had gotten no
response and I thought a reason might be that no one knew or wanted to anwser.
Well, I found another reason that might be an excuse and that is our modem is
broken for an inderterminent length of time. So if anyone would care to anwser
my question please post you anwser to the NET. In case you forgot the article
here it is again (Thanks):
_______________________________________________________________________________

I have a question concerning the use of the HP 150 computer and the DSN/LINK
application, if you output you letters from a form letter composed in Mail
Merge onto a disk, and then transfer that file from a disc to a line
printer connected to a HP 3000 system will the letters appear the same as they
would if you just used an Ink-Jet printer connected to the 150? Also if this
is the case, then isn't the actual time it takes Mail-Merge to compose each
letter shorter, since you don't have to wait for it to print out immediately?

Now for some clarifacation on the questions:

  1) In the first question, I mean will all the line spacing be the same ( num-
ber of blank lines at top and bottom remain intact) or if I transfer a file to
the 3000 am I going to have to edit it before I print the letters.

  2) The reason for the second question is that currently our 150 is used for
many form letter responses since the business where I work is a mail order
business, and when we finally teach the employees WS and Mail-Merge many form
letters will be sent out daily.

We have all the software requirements for both the 150 and the 3000 that are
needed for file transfer so that isn't a problem.

                    All help greatly appreciated!
                            Thanks,
                         Chris Harrer
