[net.micro.hp] speed up laserjet?

We seem to be having a problem with throughput on a HP Laserjet printer.
Printing a batch of 1 page jobs is taking 30 sec./job and it is taking
11+ minutes to print a batch of class exercises for a class of 22.  Is
there anyway to speed up the initialization process as it seems to be
the bottle-neck.
