Does anyone know if there are any data communications programs around for the HP150 other than the rather expensive packages offered by HP? Has anyone ever tried (and/or succeeded) to write one in BASIC? In general, I would be interested in making contact with other HP150 users. All the IBM PC users around here are starting to make me and my HP feel a little lonely. David Brain Department of Sociology Indiana University Bloomington, Indiana 47405 or brain@isrnix.UUCP

Last I tried, the vanilla version did't work too well due to bugs or misfeatures in the rs232 firmware, but I have ahacked up version that does all sorts of neat stuff like making EXTEND a pseudo-meta key, and transmitting the proper EMACS cursor movment sequences on touch screen input. I know how you feel. I also have an HP150, but I guess that I have access to a little more software... There are public domain communication programs available for the 150. I know about Kermit and Xmodem, and I have both. They seem to work well with lots of bulletin boards. I also have another program you might be interested in. It installs the most used IBM interrupt vectors into the 150, so that some IBM programs will then run without modification. Of course, if the program uses graphics or writes directly to screen memory, all bets are off... There are also public domain EMACS editors and program editors, XLISP, etc. available. Send me mail or reply to this note for more info if you're interested. Scott Linn hp-pcd!hpcvcc!scott
