[net.micro.hp] PC/VI works on the HP 150

keith@hp-pcd.UUCP (keith) (09/12/86)

Want "vi" to run on your 150?

Try PC/VI from Custom Software Systems. It is a rare instance of a
USEFUL generic MS-DOS program. It uses "termcap" to gain screen
independence of its code. It works on IBMs, Vectras, and the usual
clones. PC/VI is a very complete implementation of vi.

The use of termcap is actually a plus for the 150, because above all,
the 150 is a good terminal.

PS. There is a problem (probably my fault!) in the 150 termcap
shipped with PC/VI 1.01 and 1.02. The symptom is that characters appear
to be doubled entered on the screen. The solution is to edit the termcap
entry and remove the numbers that force termcap to send out pad
characters. I've changed the following entries in my termcap

    OLD               NEW                  COMMENT
    ---------------   ---------------      ---------------
    dc=2\EP           dc=\EP
    ip=2                                   Deleted
    ta=2^I            ta=^I
    if=/lib/std.tab if=a\:/lib/std.tab To find it from another disk
					   (i.e. the OLD one works only
					    if you're on drive a:)
