[net.micro.hp] HP110 vs. umodem

terry@msdc.UUCP (Terry Countryman) (08/30/86)

Hardware:
	vax750 (BRL V3 BSD4.2)
	hp110 (MS-DOS 2.11)

What I'm trying to do:
	I normally don't use this machine (hp110), but I helping a
friend upload some files so that we can use UNIX for formating and printing.
I am using the serial port at 4800 baud and also using the terminal emulator
program. As a terminal things seem to work fine, but when I try uploading
files (using `umodem' on UNIX) I have trouble. If the terminal program
has to retry sending a packet, it will resend the packet and then send
EOT and stop the transfer; needless to say this isn't too useful. The
version of `umodem' seems to be the one that was posted to the net
around 2/28/84. After putting some debugging printf's it seems that
UNIX/umodem are behaving correctly. Any help/info would be appreciated.
I normally don't read net.micro.hp, so please respond via e-mail.

Thanks for the responses to my questions about using umodem between
UNIX and a HP110. The trouble that I was having turned out to be
caused by bug in the HP110 xmodem implementation. A kind soul at HPlabs
is sending me a corrected version. Another person sent me a version
of xmodem for UNIX, but I misplaced his mailing address before I sent
him a "thank-you". If you would send me another message I will try not
to lose your address again.
