We are planning to install some HP equipment which will require peripherals at distances longer than what RS-232 is comfortable with. We are, however, undecided whether Line Drivers or Short Haul Modems are more appropriate. The equipment will be in an industrial manufacturing environment. If any net-people have any advice regarding the pros and cons of the two options, we would love to hear from you by e-mail, after which we would post both summary and credits. Among the things we'd like to get input on is the types of cables that are used with the two options (Line Driv./S.H.Modem), e.g. twisted pair, coax, or whatever. Thanks much {dual, ptsfa}|cogent!mark

Did you look at the 8-channel fiber optic multiplexer. It has high noise immunity, longer distance and comes with 8 standerd DB-25 connectors on both ends. It could be usefull depending on your distance. <joe freeman> hpurnca
