Many of the discussions seem to center about questions of kashrut and of
inter-marriage. At least two easily readable books can help answer some
of the questions brought up recently. They can also be used as a reference
for those who, for one reason or another, may not be able to wade through
the sea of the Talmud.
The two books that I highly recommend are:
"Encyclopedia of Jewish Concepts" by Philip Birnbaum
Hebrew Publishing Company 80 Fifth Avenue NY NY 10011

"The Jewish Way in Love & Marriage" by Maurice Lamm
Harper & Row Publishers 10 E. 53 Street NY NY 10022

The authors should be familiar to those in the Orthodox community; the
viewpoint is Orthodox, but Conservative and Reform opinions in both books
are noted.
The books are easily obtainable in the New York Jewish and Goyish bookstores,
if anyone has any questions concerning the availability or content of either
book you can contact me by email or phone.
