In a previous submission on bar/bat mitzvah, I mentioned my father's experience. Someone asked me if he was a theologian at age 13. Of course, he wasn't! I am notoriously lazy, especially when it comes to typing. I should have said he comes from a strongly relgious family which had lived several generations in a strongly religious Jewish community in Transylvania. That family did nothing very special to note his passage into maturity and that fact has had no effect on his religious practice. He feels and he is just as obligated as any boy in the US who had a great big $10,000 party. That is the full meaning of my parenthetical remark. Shim
