I have had a waterbed for 8 years, and a cat for 6. I have friends with similar experiences. The only time I had a problem with Oscar and Meatloaf was when they were little, and decided that the corner of the bed was a neat place to go fishing for ripples. They put little puncture marks in the corner, which dripped a little and were repaired in about 5 seconds with a touch of glue and a patch from a waterbed repair kit. The total loss of water (it took me about 2 days to notice) was less than 1 cup. No big deal. The kitties were still allowed on the bed, but I whapped them when they started playing in the corners, and they quit that after a try or two. So, I would say that adult critters are no problem, and sharp clawed kittens are to be watched, but are no real threat. (I can't tear a 1mm thick vinyl sheet. Do you think an 8 pound beasty can do a whole lot of damage? Not enough to worry about.) -Dan Klein, Mellon Institute, Pittsburgh

Oh, come on Steve! You could scratch the eyes out of a dog if you really WANTED to!! Or do you bite your fingernails? "You may already be a wiener!" B. Walsh
