Thanks to all of you who responded to my question about where to
get a good corned beef sandwich and knish in central NJ. Following
are the responses. I can practically taste them!

A good place for a corned beef sandwick is Richard's Depot Deli
on Brighton Avenum in the West End.

In New Jersey, the *best* Jewish style, though not kosher, food is
available at KARPEN'S DELI in Clifton, near Route 3 and the
Garden State Parkway. You can tell Hilda or Murry Karpen that
I sent you!

Try the Broadway Deli (or Restaurant or something) in Loehmann's (sp?)
Plaza on Route 18 South (or East or whatever) in E. Brunswick.

In New Jersey, the *best* Jewish style but not Kosher restaurant is
KARPEN'S DELI in Clifton, near the Garden State Parkway and Route 3.
The corned beef and knishes are great; it is really a New York
Deli that happens to be in New Jersey.

Fred and Murray's restaurant moved from Brooklyn to Freehold
a few years ago. The food is as good as, if not better than, most
Jewish restaurants in New York. I suggest going for dinner, come
hungry and try a few things. The mushroom/barley soup is extraordinary,
as are the sandwiches and home-made knishes. Also good are vegetable
cutlets, noodle pudding, and just about all the full-course dinners.
Don't forget dessert.

They've recently tripled their seating area, as it's a popular
place. It used to be impossible to get in on Friday or Saturday
night.

They are located in the Pond Road Shopping Center along Route 9
(at Pond Road, about one mile north of the Freehold Circle).
The food is STRICTLY kosher although they are not Shomer Shabbos
(translation - not closed on Saturday)

There is a
reasonably good place on Route 34 called Ken's Deli in the Strathmore Mall.
My fiance'e suggests Tabatchniks in Menlo Park and in Highland Park.
Highland Park has a few other good places.
