[net.religion.jewish] Source wanted for Midrash

rao@utcsstat.UUCP (Eli Posner) (06/03/84)

I don't know where the source is in the Midrash, but there is mention of
it in Gemorah.

Beitza 15 says that " any money spent on Shabbat or Yom Tov or
on a jewish education for childred will
		be refunded."

On Shabbat 119 there is story relevent to this topic.

Yom sheini leparshas beha-alosech, 4 SIVAN 5744, 48 days in the Omer.

Ephrayim Naiman writes :

  >Does anybody know where the following Midrash can be found ?

  >	"Any money spent 'lichvod shabbos' (to honor the sabbath),
  >one will get back."

The gamarrah in Be-ah 16., at the top, says :
"kol mezonosav shel adam kevutzim lo meirosh hashanah ve-ad yom hakipuim chutz
meihotzaos shabbasos vehotzaos banav letalmud torah ..."

The gemorrah continues with the story of shamai hazzaken who, when he found
some 'good' ma-achal, would set it aside for shabbos. Hillel hazzaken, on the
other hand, would eat it that day, saying, "baruch hashem yom yom".

A Gutten Yom-Tov.

Or leyom shelishi leparshas beha-alosecha, 5 SIVAN 5744.
(Yesterday was 48 days in the Omer - vehameivin yavin !!)

A correction please on the gemmarah i quoted from Be-ah 16.
That should read - "kol mezonosav shel adam ketzuvim lo ..."
not " ... kevutzim lo ..."

Sorry about that.

The requested source is the 'agadah Yosep Mokir S:abei (Joseph who honors
the Sabbaths), Meseket S:abat 119 side 1.

The punchline is:

	Ma'n deyazeyp s:abta' -- pra`eyh s:abta'.

Whoever lends to the Sabbath -- the Sabbath will repay him.
