[net.misc] Psychic Warfare

Pucc-H:Physics:crl@CS-Mordred.UUCP (01/18/84)

Psychic warfare??? Who could ever believe that ESP is within the
realm of possibility??? Some people out there are willing to believe
anything--like a round earth, a heliocentric solar system, that a
50 eV electron can tunnel through a 100 eV potential barrier, that
I can travel at 99.99999% the speed of light for long periods of time
without aging appreciably . . . .

Oh, you mean all the above is true??? (These too were once considered
insane beliefs. ESP might be just wishful thinking, but you never
know.)

The difference between alleged psychic powers and the items which, by
citing, people try to put into the same equivalence class, is that
the people who proposed a round earth/heliocentric solar system, etc.
could propose repeatable experiments to test their propositions. Moreover,
they were not fashionable beliefs the way Velikovskianism, astrology,
and ESP are now. (Galileo risked his neck for his beliefs; the cranks
risk fame and fortune among the gullible who are all too ready to
believe.)
