[net.religion.jewish] N.Y. Restaurants and Law of Return

One of my favorite kosher restaurants in n.y. is the 2nd Avenue Deli on
2nd Avenue on the Lower East Side. The food is very good (though at times
inconsistent), and very reasonable.

By the way, regarding the Law of the Return article by S.S.:

>In fact, I would have guessed that even if one were converted by an
>orthodox rabbi in the Diaspora, that...a second trip to the mikveh
>would be required.

From the experience of many of my friends, all that the "rabbis"
check is if the conversion papers contain the phrase "k'halacha"
("according to Jewish Law"). The conversion papers are only read by
the rabbis in the event you need to get married. In order to receive
a teudat oleh (immigration papers), and subsequently citizenship, all
you need to do is to show the Jewish Agency personnel your conversion papers.
Since these personnel are typically not religious, it is easy
to argue with them that you were converted "k'halacha."
